Welcome

Here you will find a glimpse into the lives of generations of the Longden Family, the Harrold Family, the Barker Family and the Trickett Family. Up until the end of the 20th Century nearly all my ancestors have lived in either Chesterfield, Calow or Hasland. They mined coal, made boots and shoes, did labouring jobs, worked in shops, were engineers and made the tunnelling shields to dig the underground in Moscow and London.

None were famous and until recently none were members of any profession; some died young, others lived into their nineties. As young adults many could not read or write, but eventually all could. Some have tombstones and some have fine photographs. Many of their homes, and the chapels and schools they attended, are still standing while others have been demolished.

I hope you enjoy your visit to my website and if you are a relative of mine I would love to hear from you at:

Navigating the Site

  • Main Pages    Please use the menu on the left to access each family's main page.   If you wish to access a particular family member then click on the name in the pop-up menus.

  • Key Family Members    Once you have accessed a key family member's page, you can then get the details of other family members by clicking the names in blue.   Only a spouse or the children of the key family member have a separate page.

Evidence

  • Everything on the website, other than information in italics, is based on primary data: such as actual birth, marriage and death certificates; photographs and other documents I have been given over the years; notes made from original documents in Chesterfield Library and County Record Offices, such as census returns, parish records and Bishops transcripts; and, photographs I have taken of churches, tombstones and subscription stones.
  • Why then are parts of the website in italics?    Where I have gleaned the data from reliable internet and other sources, but do not have actual proof that the data is accurate, I have shown this information in italics.    However I have only entered such data when it comes from an extremely reliable sources (eg National Burial Index CD, Family History Societies CDs and other competent genealogical sites) and where I own some other supporting evidence.
