Charles HARROLD (1828-1914)
Charles
HURRELL was born in Thrandeston in 1828 and was baptised at St Margaret’s Church – he was the
eldest son of Robert HAROLD and Harriet PERRY. The spelling
of the family name is still not regularised but Harold and Harrold are always used from 1851 onwards - this page uses
the names shown in the original documents.
At St
Margaret’s Church, Thrandeston in 1850 Charles
HAROLD (aged 21) married
Betsey BROWN aged 19, a spinster
born at Eye, Suffolk in 1831. Throughout her marriage Betsy’s
name is written either Betsy or Betsey. Her father was James
Brown a brick maker and Charles HAROLD’s occupation
is shown as ‘labourer’ - throughout his life Charles
worked as either a labourer, farm labourer or an agricultural
labourer. The witnesses were John Harold (Charles’s
Uncle) and Eliza Aldon (relationship still unknown).
Only four
of their children survived into adulthood:

Browne). David went to live in Chesterfield, married
in Hasland in Derbyshire in 1880 and died in 1926 in

died when young – see National Burial Index CD for Thrandeston:
