Douglas HARROLD (1896-1947)
Douglas
HARROLD was born in 1896 the youngest child of Edgar
and Jane HARROLD. At the time the family lived on Mansfield
Road in Hasland.
In 1921 Douglas married Kathleen May Weeks (who was always
known as May). At the time of his marriage Douglas was an
‘Ironworks Fitter’ and lived at 8 Mansfield Road
in Hasland. May lived at Bowling Green Villas in Chesterfield
and her father William Weeks was alive at the time of their
marriage. The wedding took place at the Wesleyan Methodist
Chapel in Chesterfield, with Rosalie Ellen Weeks
and Oliver Harrold as the witnesses.
Douglas
died aged 50 in 1947 at 30 Smithfield Avenue in
Hasland. He is buried in Hasland Cemetery in the plot next
to that of my grandparents Mabel and Walter LONGDEN.
Their
only son Jack lived at 30 Smithfield Avenue throughout his
life. Jack and Margaret had two sons and one of them still
lives in Hasland. Jack HARROLD died in 1990 aged
67 years and his wife Margaret in 2000. Both are buried
in the same grave in Hasland Cemetery.
